The Institute for the Book (IPL) was created in late 2005 under the General Directorate for Libraries and Institutes for raising the cultural books and reading in public policy administration. Italy is a country in which we read little and tends to increase the gap between non-readers and casual readers (the vast majority) and so-called "readers" strong (a minority, albeit tough). For this reason, the birth of the IPL is an important first step, without thinking of an organic sector, a model europeo.L 'Institute is well aware that the ultimate goal is the reader, real or potential. And that the 'goal' should become, immediately, a person may be involved, an active role. IPL aims to collect, coordinate and re-launch projects that reflect and convey an idea of \u200b\u200bthe book as a vital "friendly" inserted in daily life, a different agenda to prevail quality culture in this area. Therefore, the IPL, intends to base its programs on energy and coordination of initiatives, in both the cultural and local institutions (Regions, Provinces, Municipalities), and by all the subjects that make up the chain of the book. This action, supported by a program of long-term communication, through the involvement of institutions and the media will focus with the institutional activities to support the distribution of books and reading in Italy and abroad (participation in trade fairs, incentives to translations, initiatives in schools and libraries) and will unfold in a series of events organized by the Institute for Paper, which will affect many Italian companies (especially in Central and South ) since October 2006.
